Hi, my name is Eric. I've been in the construction industry for 10+ years . When I started in the industry it was like many in my area in that the job was supposed to be a way to make money to pay for college. As I worked in the summers and went to school in the winter I quickly realized that college wasn't the direction for me. It wasn't that school was particularly difficult but what I had found was what was being taught to me in school didn't reflect what happened in the real world. When I finally realized that the days of formal education were over for me. I went full time into the construction industry (Highway Heavy/Civil and Heavy Industry to be exact) and fell in love with it. It wasn't the hardwork or the long hours that caught my attention but the way technology was integrating in to the world. From installing automated processing lines in mining operations to high accuracy GPS units being used to construct roads it was fascinating to me. I've always been a tech nerd, hoovering up any information I can about the latest and greatest technology being released and developed, but seeing the real world applications for it in use is really what I enjoyed. Being a young man in the world of heavy construction was tough but also an advantage for me, GPS was just starting to become a mainstay in the Civil World of construction with many Federal, State and Local Agencies starting to require the use of it on projects. This is really where my young age and love of technology became an advantage to me. The older generation had no desire to learn the new tech whereas I was scooping up any bit of information about it I could, quickly learning how to use, maintain and install GPS units. It was no secret that GPS was revolutionizing the construction world and if your company wasn't getting onboard they were getting left behind.
So what does this have to do with Drones you may be asking? Well, one major use of the GPS Rover unit was to be able to accurately survey Aggregate Stockpiles in sand and gravel mines. In order to do this you would walk the edge of a stockpile then climb all over it collecting various data points that would then turn into a 3D measurement of the pile. One cold snowy day in northen MN I was climbing over a stockpile and stumbling down since the frozen material was difficult to climb. I said to myself "there has to be a better way to do this". That's when I found Drones.... My company had integrated the use of drones in surveying their stockpiles years earlier and had actually been on the cutting edge of the technology but somewhere along the way the use of it had gotten scrapped. Various employees quitting and no one really taking the time to learn how to properly use the drone or software related to it. As soon as I had realized what a missed opportunity this was I jumped on it. Diving head first into the world of Drones. I quickly started to learn the ins and outs of the drones themselves as well as the software to utilize along with it. The problem I kept running into time and time again was a simple one. The Drone market was still emerging and new as well as coming to a industry that historically was slow to adopt new methods and technology. This created the issue of a lack of information and knowledge and what information that was out there was hard to aquire. It was scattered throughout various websites and agencies. The software used was fragmented and hard to find information on. In order to learn about all the different things out there I found myself combing through hundreds of different web pages and links trying to find answers. That's when the idea of UAV Central appeared to me. Create a single website where all things drone could be found, from photogrammetry software, flight software and the drones themselves. Bring it all under one roof and make it easier for individuals and companies to learn about drones and their benefits to our industries.

There are numerous drone companies throughout the world and our aim is to have a list of them all added here. This takes time though, check back as we are going to continually add companies and drones to the list.
